Hello! I’m Charlotte, a doctorate level, board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. When medication is a part of your overall plan to manage and improve your mental health, I’m your person.
In order to help you achieve your best self, we will approach your mental health struggles through a non-judgmental perspective, utilizing a combination of therapeutic approaches – I routinely apply Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), pairing these therapies with a carefully selected medication regimen.
I believe that trust is the glue that holds all relationships together, and trust is based on integrity. Because of that I work best with patients who genuinely want to get better and are willing to put in the hard work to better their lives. I invest a lot of effort, thought, and knowledge into each one of my patients and get the best results when there is an investment from you as well. My patients often say that they feel that I sincerely care about them, and they’re right – because I treat each person who comes to me looking for help in their lives as if they were part of my family. If you’re willing to take the courageous step and reach out for help with your mental health, then I will be there on the other end helping you improve your quality of life.

Have you ever left a doctor’s visit and not felt that your medical provider was going to invest the time to conduct the detective work to figure out what’s really at the root of your medical concerns? Have you worked with mental health providers who you feel can sympathize with you, but do not actually understand what you are dealing with or going through? Have you worked with providers who didn’t get back to you promptly, left your emails unanswered, medication refill requests not refilled before you ran out?
When we work together you will find yourself with a mental health provider who will not stop at the symptoms of your distress – I will put in the extra work to get to the root causes of your issues. This might include referrals for formal psychological testing or treatment, consultation, or a referral for specific bloodwork. I believe that knowledge, expertise, and excellence in how one treats one’s patients is not based on a sense of doctor-patient superiority. My passion lies in systemic changes to better my patients’ lives, always offering my perspective on how you can improve your life. I will always add it is up to you how you choose to proceed. Because ultimately it is your life, your body, your decision. I will answer the most intricate, intimate, or even embarrassing questions related to your treatment in an environment in which things are warm, authentic, and open. I have lived in different countries and cultures, and I believe that these unique experiences are one of my biggest assets as a mental health provider. Decades of living in many countries, each with completely different cultures and ideals and their vastly different economic, political, religious, ideological environments have allowed me to incorporate a more comprehensive, accepting, empathetic, and holistic approach to my practice. And finally, I will get back to your questions and refill requests within the day (Monday-Friday) you send them to me. I take pride in being fully responsible and responsive even outside of our appointment times.
Many people feel that our medical system has failed them. This is why I went into private practice, so as not to be confined to the outdated treatment algorithms that just don’t work – and to provide time and space to get to the foundational causes of what’s going on. I take all forms of insurance and currently have immediate openings – let’s get to work, together!
I’m Istvan – your billing and administrative specialist, working closely alongside my sister, your healthcare provider.
My main goal is to make sure you never feel lost in the shuffle. Whether it’s billing questions, insurance paperwork, or any administrative need, I’m here to make the process as smooth, seamless and stress-free as possible. I’ll always aim to respond to your emails within 24 hours (weekends excluded), and email is my preferred way to communicate so I can give thoughtful, detailed responses.
It’s a privilege to support my sister in her practice – together, we’re here to provide you with care that’s not only clinically sound but also well-coordinated behind the scenes. Whether your needs are health-related or administrative, we’ll work together to find a solution that works for you.
A bit about me: I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and split my time between the US and Europe. I have a background in architecture, a decade of experience in creative and detail-oriented work, and a strong passion for photography, cooking from scratch, and traditional food techniques like fermenting and souring. I’m also deeply engaged in contemporary dance and solo improvisation. My multidisciplinary background gives me a unique perspective—and I bring that same care, focus, enthusiasm and creativity to supporting you.
Looking forward to working with you!

I have been through it all since I was a teen. EVERY doctor I have ever saw misdiagnosed me, over medicated me with benzodiazepines, anti depressants, etc. I gave up on my mental health until I met Dr. Szabo 6 years ago, giving my mental health another attempt. Unfortunately, due to my experiences up to that point, I left her office skeptical when she diagnosed me with a different condition than I have received in the past by other doctors. I chose not to listen and take meds. Fast forward to early 2024 when I revisited her, took her advice, help, suggestions, guidance, etc. After 10 months of seeing her, I now know she got it right. I’m healthy again, living my life, experiencing stability, and so much more. She’s good. Really good. If you’re struggling to get the proper help or feel like you don’t know who to trust, set up an appointment with her. I am confident she will be able to help you. I am beyond grateful for finding Dr. Szabo.
I started seeing Charlotte Szabo roughly 5 years ago and she has helped me immensely every step of the way. I had started seeing her when my life had completely done a 180 and I was left navigating some huge mental, physical and emotional health issues that felt helpless and unbearable. Throughout this whole process, Charlotte was such a rock of support, ideas, recommendations and love. That gave me hope, hope that we all deeply need when navigating such struggles and facing such vulnerability through all of it. I love that Charlotte was ALWAYS open to hear my opinion, that it was a conversation of care and not a prescription of care. Charlotte looks at each person as an individual and down to the core. She recognizes the importance of your own values when it comes to treatment, resources and recovery. I am SO beyond grateful for Charlotte and for her support along this wild ride of life. If you're looking for amazing care, to be heard and to feel so supported, look no further. Charlotte Szabo is an amazing human being and provider who is truly here to help. So much love to you, Charlotte Szabo!
Charlotte Szabo is one of those rare practitioners who goes the extra mile for their patients. After our last appointment, my special needs kiddo said “I love Dr. Szabo; she always puts me in a good mood!!” We are so blessed to be connected with such a caring provider!!! Charlotte Szabo is one of the best practitioners that we have ever encountered (and there have been many over the years). She has listened to my kiddo and me, and supported us in the best possible way. We have been blessed to have been working with her over the last few years, and look forward to working with her for years to come. Charlotte is a true gem!!!
I have been working with Charlotte Szabo for years now and I cannot even begin to describe how amazing this woman is. She has hands down changed my life for the better in the time we have spent working on this mental health journey. How she approaches her treatment and care is nothing I have ever experienced before. You can tell she truly cares about her clients as if they were her family or friends. She wants you to succeed and of course with that you need to put in the work. I have been to many therapists in my lifetime and I have made the most growth with Charlotte to the point where I now couldn't imagine seeing anyone else. She makes sure that medications are on point and always makes it work in regards to refill issues or anything. Honestly anyone who needs an amazing therapist who will help you see things from different perspectives and gives you all the tools you need to overcome life's obstacles she is the go to therapist. 11/10 for sure! Forever thankful for having her in my life.
I had the privilege of working with Charlotte for quite some time. It took a while for us to find a medication regiment that worked well for me, but Charlotte was so patient while we worked together to find what would be suitable for me long term. I noticed right away that she was thorough, detailed in her medication management skills and very knowledgeable about side effects and medication interactions. I felt comfortable with her making adjustments along the way.
Charlotte's greatest strength though, is her demeanor with clients. She is extremely positive and kind. She really helped me problem solve in different areas and helped me build on my strengths as a person to overcome some of my mental health and addiction challenges. I would highly recommend her if you have complex PTSD, mental illness and/or addiction. She will help you find your way by offering a different perspective and helping you see your issues in a different light. This woman honestly changed my life for the better. I am thankful to have crossed her path. I'd give her 6/5 stars if it were possible!
Charlotte Szabo was extremely helpful in navigating my emotional and mental issues while I went through Cancer treatment. Her approach is very personable and she asks a lot of thoughtful questions to determine the best action.
Charlotte is quite simply AMAZING! It is like having a best friend help you find your balance in life again. She is so personable and "normal" in a good way! Fantastic provider. I recommend her all the time. You can rest assured that she will do all she can to help you.
